It’s quite interesting to see how Patrick Baumann will conduct himself before the Filipino fans in the FIBA Asia Men’s Basketball Championship to be held in Manila in August of 2013. Baumann, which I mentioned in many of my articles, is a typical tyrant and most of all, a racist who has displayed his arrogance toward Asia, Latin-American, Oceania and Africa due to the color of the skin of their people. He thinks that as white man, he is superior over colored people and that makes him worse of person, a member on the IOC at that. Knowing for the fact, Baumann (FIBA secretary general) was the same person behind the move to kick out the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) and replaced it with the present national basketball federation in the Philippines, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). He did so because until today, he is still hoping for a share of marketing rights in one of the FIBA official market. However, FIBA Executive Committee members are saying Baumann is not happy because what was promised him by the SBP, hasn’t yet been fulfilled. If ever Baumann will be the “Guest of Horror” in the coming FIBA Asia Championship in Manila, let’s hope that Filipinos will learn to realize what he did to basketball in the country for his personal gain. I hope people will realize how greedy this Baumann is. The racist Baumann, who is a practicing lousy lawyer, wants FIBA to control the 200 country members through the manipulation of a former FIBA secretary general and now self-proclaimed FIBA secretary general emeritus, Borislav Stankovic. As the FIBA members’ saying goes, let’s give him a warm applause, hep hep, go away! Graham C. Lim Secretary General Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) FIBA member since 1936 Member, National Press Club (NPC) since 1989 Monday, July 29, 2013: "Your Cheatin' Heart" Joni James This noon, I got a shocking text message from Irish, the teenage girl who was looking after Enrique Gonzales, that her "Tata Iking," had passed away in the morning. I remember late last year, I visited Iking at the Chinese General Hospital in Manila. He had a massive stroke that paralyzed half of his body. Worse, he couldn't even speak, could hardly move, and it seemed he didn't even recognized me. But I tried to speak out loudly to him, asking whether he could hear me or not. Iking was a close associate in the world of journalism. He helped me how to write. He trained and taught me how to analyze and make sports stories and do public relations with me in the late 1980s, when he was the sports editor of the Philippine Journal, a daily broadsheet national newspaper. I was considered as a member of his staff, at a time I wanted to learn more about Journalism. I was even accredited by the Philippines' National Press Club, through his endorsement. I am deeply saddened to hear the sad news from Irish, who was a lovely adorable child when she was just a little girl during the time I was with Iking, who also helped me as my public relations officer in the Filipino-Chinese community. Due to my present predicament, I couldn't even get the chance to see him for the last time. My personal condolences to his family and may his soul rest in peace. Lim In Memory of our dear Nenita Varron Mendoza, who passed away last July 8, 2012, here’s a short story about the long-time secretary of the Basketball Association of the Philippines and Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines from Graham C. Lim. Simply known as Neth to everyone, she died following a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband Nelson and sons Neil Kenneth, Nelson Jr and Nickson Mendoza. Neth had worked as the Executive Secretary of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) since 1996 and also held the same position with the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) starting in 2005. Up to her last breath, I was in constant communication with Neth through her eldest son Kenneth for all the medical needs of his mom. I have requested all our colleagues and members in the FESSAP and BAP, including BAP President Senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV and FESSAP President David Ong, to pray for the repose of her soul and provide moral support to her family. Neth’s eldest son is presently working part-time but will soon work for us in a certain capacity. Neth left three male children. The second, Nelson Jr., is a first-year college student and plays for the varsity team of the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in the on-going NCAA basketball tournament. The youngest, Nickson, is still in the high school and is a scholar of the BAP-FESSAP. Neth had been one of the stabilizing force in the BAP even when the controversy with the Philippine Olympic Committee, SBP and FIBA erupted in 2001. As the Executive Secretary, she was a strong-willed, hardworking lady who dealt with all the communication aspects involving the BAP and FESSAP here and abroad. I will always remember Neth as a person who lived a life of simplicity. I have stood through many storms in the past regarding the BAP and FESSAP but it was Neth who was there to make the business is as usual with the two sports organizations. Neth was the one who shielded me from potential danger with the various harassments and threats to my life through the past few decades, withholding or providing information that would assure my personal safety. For that, I am indebted to her. My association with Neth actually goes way, way back during my PICAA days before I became an official of the BAP. May the Lord guide Neth to eternal life, bless her with eternal peace. I will always remember as a comrade who was called by the Almighty to watch over us in this world of uncertainty and restlessness. Goodbye my Comrade! Neth's body currently lies in state at her home at Bahayang Pagasa, Woodsite 3, Escaler Street, Block 14 Lot 7, Imus, Cavite.
During my imprisonment in Camp Bagong Diwa
On June 28, 2012 "I will be marking my second anniversary as a free man following more than seven months of imprisonment". This is my short story…………Graham C. Lim Manila, Philippines -- On December 7, 2009, during the hearing of a criminal case I filed against a certain person by the name of Manuel V. Pangilinan. This was the man who, instead of acting as a mediator, pulled off a coup in claiming the presidency of the fledgling Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and kicking out the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) as the country’s national basketball federation. The BAP has been recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since 1936, a year in which the first BAP president, Senator Ambrosio Padilla, stood as Philippines’ team captain in the first Summer Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. The criminal case I filed against this person revolved around the SBP’s falsification of private documents that resulted in two sets of Minutes of Meeting on February 5, 2007 for the Unity Congress agreement of the BAP and the SBP that would name the BAP-SBP as the national governing body in basketball in the Philippines. The agreement was approved by the FIBA, led by FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann, and witnessed by FIBA Asia President Sheikh Saud Ali Al-Thani of Qatar and FIBA Asia Secretary General Dato’ Yeoh Choo Hock of Malaysia. The unification agreement, which was to be known as the Bangkok Agreement, was signed on February 4, 2007, a night before the “Unity Congress” was to be held (on February 5, 2007). Also putting their signatures on the Bangkok Agreement document were SBP President Manual V. Pangilinan and Pilipinas Basketball (PB) acting President Jose Capistrano on one side and BAP Executive Vice President Christian Tan and BAP legal counsel Bonifacio Alentajan on the other end. Sadly, the Bangkok Agreement was never followed to the letter. Various violations were committed, and worse of all, the name of the merged organization was shamelessly changed to simply “SBP” even when the Bangkok Agreement called for the organization to be known as “BAP-SBP.” Sadly, the FIBA did not also honor the Bangkok Agreement even when its secretary general, Patrick Baumann, was among the signatories to the document. Moreover, it was Baumann himself who initiated the supposed merger between the BAP and SBP. Undoubtedly the FIBA secretariat was tremendous pressure from the SBP to disregard the Bangkok Agreement for future marketing considerations. Just as I stepped out of the hearing at the prosecution office in the afternoon of December 7, 2009, a Friday, I was instantly surrounded by men from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) under the Interpol Division. This would indicate that had been under surveillance by the International Police for some time. Imagine, it was the Interpol that was tapped to arrest me, even when it was out of their jurisdiction since the real case against me had to do with deportation. As such, my case should have been handled by Bureau of Immigration (BI). Instead my filthy-rich foe chose to pay off the Interpol bigwigs to arrest me, then connive with the BI to make sure I rot in jail and stay away from the local basketball scene. Immediately, I was brought to NBI Office along Taft Avenue, Manila for the customary picture and finger taking. Subsequently, I was taken to the BI head office in the Intramuros Area for reason that I don’t really know until now. I asked one BI officer why I was being arrested when the BI had not issued a warrant of arrest. Instead, it was the head of the Department of Justice (DOJ), the honourable Secretary Agnes Devanadera, who issued the arrest order through the NBI Interpol agency. Still I begged to ask this question: Why was the Interpol involved here when I was not an international terrorist wanted by the world authorities. This is how this country has been run since the 1970s. If one is fighting for what is fair and just, he is treated like a criminal, a law violator. In contrast, the powerful and the rich can easily play around with the judicial system no matter what wrongdoings they done. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. How sad is the state of affairs in our country. Still and all, my imprisonment has not stopped me from pursuing my lonely battle against injustice, tyranny and persecution of innocent people by the powers-that-be, whether they are in big business or serving the government. For in the end, I know that justice will prevail – maybe not now but certainly sooner than anyone else thinks. One's honour is precious. It’s not for sale, even to the highest bidder. In God's time, I knew that justice would be served and those who had a hand in my seven-month imprisonment at Bagong Bicutan Detention Center will eventually pay dearly for this transgression. As they say, what comes around, goes around. I never tried to seek vengeance for the suffering that my family and I had experienced from my opponents. I just leave everything to the incorruptable universal court of law known as karma. The days of reckoning are just around the corner anyway. Peace be with all of you! GrAhAm C. The Summer Universiade is the counterpart of the Summer Olympic at the university level. Athletes from the different major cities, such as those from Zamboanga City, Cotabato City, Cagayan De Oro City, Butuan City in Mindanao, and Cebu City, Dumaguete City, Tagbilaran City in the Visayas, have been invited to join the NSWC. The holding of the 1st NSWC has the full support of PRISAA Executive Director Elbert “Bong” Atilano. “I have been supporting weightlifting for the last three decades and hopefully this will encourage young college athletes to show their skill and gain international recognition for the Philippines with their participation in the 27th Summer Universiade in Russia,” said Atilano, who is also the FESSAP Assistant Secretary General for Mindanao Affairs. Let the Public Know the TRUTH about the BAP and SBP dispute By Karlson Mendez (Free Philippines)2/29/2012 February 29, 2012 (Wednesday) By: Karlson Mendez
The FIBA Asia conducted an Executive Committee meeting in June 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During the meeting, it was reported that the name of the Philippines’ national basketball federation was question. Based on the 2007 Bangkok Agreement, the FIBA and FIBA Asia agreed to name the Philippines’ Federation as BAP-SBP. In a blatant violation of the agreement, however, the FIBA Secretariat now calls the federation as simply SBP. FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann was in attendance during the meeting, but suspiciously he sat through it with his mouth tightly shut. I speak up so that the other members of the FIBA family throughout the globe would know the real developments behind the national basketball leadership dispute. Baumann’s deafening silence can be equated as guilt. With no remorse for his wrongdoing, the corruption-ridden Baumann and his lackeys are so obsessed with greed and ambition. Perhaps, they may want to reflect on the tragedies that brought down several dictators in Arab countries such as Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, and Libya. The people in the FIBA Secretariat, led by Baumann, Stankovic and Elphinston, are known to be corrupt by basketball officials around the world, particularly in the FIBA Asia where the trio was accused of indecent conduct to their Asian brothers. Manipulating and conspiring with dubious basketball personalities, to the detriment of the decent men and women in the organization, is their biggest sin. Their systematic destruction of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP), while sleeping in bed with the corrupt businessman from the Philippines, will not be forgotten. The BAP was forced to compromise with the SBP under the Memorandum of Agreement (Bangkok Agreement) initiated by bright boy, Patrick Baumann, who had been boasting to his allies in the FIBA Central Board that it was he who brought this moneyed businessman, who has been convicted of plagiarism before the bar of public opinion, to the FIBA for future marketing purposes in FIBA Asia. He also threatened to run after those people currently running the FIBA Asia Executive Committee sooner or later. Baumann claimed to our source that he had this moneyed businessman under his palm and control. Sheikh Saud Al-Thani and Dato Yeoh Choo Hock, FIBA Asia President and Secretary General, respectively, were part of the MOA between the BAP and SBP that was signed in Bangkok on February 4, 2007. The so called Bangkok Agreement was initiated and even witnessed by Patrick Baumann, a move that supposedly was to lift the Philippines’ suspension from the FIBA. In reality, it was an evil design aimed to boot the BAP out of the FIBA family. In one of the provisions of the MOA (Bangkok Agreement), which was witnessed by Baumann, Sheikh Saud, Mr. Hagop Khajirian (FIBA-Asia Deputy Sec-Gen), Dato Yeoh and the representatives from the BAP and SBP, it was agreed upon that the 87 member associations affiliated with the BAP and 21 members from the SBP – will be allowed to vote for the next set of the merged BAP-SBP organization after a transitory period of one year. In June 2008, the BAP-SBP, under the BAP wings, called for a general election to select the new leaders. It was attended by the representatives of 65 member associations. The result of the voting was forwarded to the FIBA Secretariat. Yet strangely, it failed to recognize the election. Two weeks later, the SBP faction, under the dictates of the rich businessman, held its own election. Quickly the FIBA Secretariat gave its blessing even if the voters did not compose the majority of the merged BAP-SBP organization. Only 19 of the member associations were invited to attend their meeting. Therefore, their election of officers was a mockery. It is also worth mentioning that six (6) of them were not even listed on the official voter’s list approved in the Bangkok Agreement. One (1) association withdrew its affiliation (CESAFI association from Cebu City), citing the fact that the election of BAP-SBP (SBP faction) could not be valid since there was a lack of a quorum. Indeed, there was no quorum as only ten (10) member associations affiliated with the SBP actually were in attendance during the meeting. However, they went on to elect a complete 25 –member Board. How were they able to do that? That is a puzzlement that even great mathematicians can’t figure out. Unbelievably, if not ignorantly, the FIBA Secretariat recognized the results of the voting. Even when the BAP later informed Patrick Baumann about this matter during the FIBA Asia meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on January 19, 2009, Baumann just sat there in silence. He kept on denying everything that had transpired during the meeting, perhaps mindful that he could not do anything that would upset his Filipino businessman lackey, from whom he could extract marketing money in the future if and when marketing scheme that the two were planning to do comes to fruition. This information came from some of the members of the FIBA Central Board. These are two of several violations of the Bangkok Agreement that the BAP had informed FIBA-Asia officials, minding that honourable men like Sheikh Saud and Dato Yeoh would understand the truth and sequence of events regarding the Philippine basketball leadership dispute. The two, in fact, were signatories to the Bangkok Agreement. The BAP faction has great respect for them and pray that both gentlemen will see the light and rectify these mistakes that continue to question the integrity of the Philippine basketball federation and the credibility of the FIBA as a whole. The BAP-SBP (BAP faction) humbly urges FIBA-Asia members to join the BAP in its crusade against the FIBA Secretariat and demand the resignation of Patrick Baumann, Borislav Stankovic and Bob Elphinston, the Three Stooges who over the years have wreaked havoc to the organization that we all love. Let’s act now before the cancer spreads further and further so as to cause the destruction of the entire FIBA family. The BAP, which has been a FIBA member since 1936, will remain steady in its principled battle against those who have illegally taken over the local basketball leadership. You are right, Fire Quinito! He is in the payroll of this corrupt businessman anyway. Just like the sports editors of the three leading daily newspapers here in the country. Perhaps you are also part of this corrupt system, having partaken some of the largesse this businessman is shelling out to his henchmen. I know who you are and what you have done. Repent!
