The FIBA Asia conducted an Executive Committee meeting in June 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During the meeting, it was reported that the name of the Philippines’ national basketball federation was question. Based on the 2007 Bangkok Agreement, the FIBA and FIBA Asia agreed to name the Philippines’ Federation as BAP-SBP. In a blatant violation of the agreement, however, the FIBA Secretariat now calls the federation as simply SBP.
FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann was in attendance during the meeting, but suspiciously he sat through it with his mouth tightly shut.
I speak up so that the other members of the FIBA family throughout the globe would know the real developments behind the national basketball leadership dispute.
Baumann’s deafening silence can be equated as guilt. With no remorse for his wrongdoing, the corruption-ridden Baumann and his lackeys are so obsessed with greed and ambition. Perhaps, they may want to reflect on the tragedies that brought down several dictators in Arab countries such as Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, and Libya.
The people in the FIBA Secretariat, led by Baumann, Stankovic and Elphinston, are known to be corrupt by basketball officials around the world, particularly in the FIBA Asia where the trio was accused of indecent conduct to their Asian brothers.
Manipulating and conspiring with dubious basketball personalities, to the detriment of the decent men and women in the organization, is their biggest sin.
Their systematic destruction of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP), while sleeping in bed with the corrupt businessman from the Philippines, will not be forgotten.
The BAP was forced to compromise with the SBP under the Memorandum of Agreement (Bangkok Agreement) initiated by bright boy, Patrick Baumann, who had been boasting to his allies in the FIBA Central Board that it was he who brought this moneyed businessman, who has been convicted of plagiarism before the bar of public opinion, to the FIBA for future marketing purposes in FIBA Asia. He also threatened to run after those people currently running the FIBA Asia Executive Committee sooner or later. Baumann claimed to our source that he had this moneyed businessman under his palm and control.
Sheikh Saud Al-Thani and Dato Yeoh Choo Hock, FIBA Asia President and Secretary General, respectively, were part of the MOA between the BAP and SBP that was signed in Bangkok on February 4, 2007. The so called Bangkok Agreement was initiated and even witnessed by Patrick Baumann, a move that supposedly was to lift the Philippines’ suspension from the FIBA. In reality, it was an evil design aimed to boot the BAP out of the FIBA family.
In one of the provisions of the MOA (Bangkok Agreement), which was witnessed by Baumann, Sheikh Saud, Mr. Hagop Khajirian (FIBA-Asia Deputy Sec-Gen), Dato Yeoh and the representatives from the BAP and SBP, it was agreed upon that the 87 member associations affiliated with the BAP and 21 members from the SBP – will be allowed to vote for the next set of the merged BAP-SBP organization after a transitory period of one year.
In June 2008, the BAP-SBP, under the BAP wings, called for a general election to select the new leaders. It was attended by the representatives of 65 member associations. The result of the voting was forwarded to the FIBA Secretariat. Yet strangely, it failed to recognize the election.
Two weeks later, the SBP faction, under the dictates of the rich businessman, held its own election. Quickly the FIBA Secretariat gave its blessing even if the voters did not compose the majority of the merged BAP-SBP organization.
Only 19 of the member associations were invited to attend their meeting. Therefore, their election of officers was a mockery.
It is also worth mentioning that six (6) of them were not even listed on the official voter’s list approved in the Bangkok Agreement. One (1) association withdrew its affiliation (CESAFI association from Cebu City), citing the fact that the election of BAP-SBP (SBP faction) could not be valid since there was a lack of a quorum.
Indeed, there was no quorum as only ten (10) member associations affiliated with the SBP actually were in attendance during the meeting.
However, they went on to elect a complete 25 –member Board. How were they able to do that? That is a puzzlement that even great mathematicians can’t figure out.
Unbelievably, if not ignorantly, the FIBA Secretariat recognized the results of the voting.
Even when the BAP later informed Patrick Baumann about this matter during the FIBA Asia meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on January 19, 2009, Baumann just sat there in silence. He kept on denying everything that had transpired during the meeting, perhaps mindful that he could not do anything that would upset his Filipino businessman lackey, from whom he could extract marketing money in the future if and when marketing scheme that the two were planning to do comes to fruition. This information came from some of the members of the FIBA Central Board.
These are two of several violations of the Bangkok Agreement that the BAP had informed FIBA-Asia officials, minding that honourable men like Sheikh Saud and Dato Yeoh would understand the truth and sequence of events regarding the Philippine basketball leadership dispute.
The two, in fact, were signatories to the Bangkok Agreement. The BAP faction has great respect for them and pray that both gentlemen will see the light and rectify these mistakes that continue to question the integrity of the Philippine basketball federation and the credibility of the FIBA as a whole.
The BAP-SBP (BAP faction) humbly urges FIBA-Asia members to join the BAP in its crusade against the FIBA Secretariat and demand the resignation of Patrick Baumann, Borislav Stankovic and Bob Elphinston, the Three Stooges who over the years have wreaked havoc to the organization that we all love.
Let’s act now before the cancer spreads further and further so as to cause the destruction of the entire FIBA family.
The BAP, which has been a FIBA member since 1936, will remain steady in its principled battle against those who have illegally taken over the local basketball leadership.
You are right, Fire Quinito! He is in the payroll of this corrupt businessman anyway. Just like the sports editors of the three leading daily newspapers here in the country. Perhaps you are also part of this corrupt system, having partaken some of the largesse this businessman is shelling out to his henchmen.
I know who you are and what you have done. Repent!
