FESSAP Executive Committee has designated TOYM Awardee Antonio L. Tiu of AgriNurture Inc (ANI) as the Philippines' delegation head to the 2013 Kazan Universiade.
The Executive Committee of the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) recently announced the designation of Mr. Antonio L. Tiu of AgriNurture Inc. (ANI) as the country's delegation head to the Kazan Universiade in July next year.
The announcement came during a special meeting presided by FESSAP president David U. Ong.
Mr. Antonio Tiu recently was chosen as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines with President Nonoy Aquino handing the award in special ceremonies at the Malacañang Palace. The 27th Summer Universiade will be held in Kazan, Russia from July 6-17 next year.

The FESSAP is the sole national university sports organization recognized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). In the 2011 Universiade in Shenzhen, People's Republic of China, the Philippines was one of only 65 countries among a record 152 entries to secure a medal.
Taekwondo jin Mr. Samuel Morrison of Far Eastern University earned a silver during the biennial games.
Aside from Mr. David Ong, other FESSAP officials who were in attendance during the special meeting were are Executive Vice President Prof. Robert Milton Calo of the Technological University of the Philippines, Vice
Presidents Christian Tan of Chiang Kai Shek College, Teresita Abundo, Richard Cuartero and Dr. Diosdado Amante, Treasurer Jeane Monteverde, Finance Officer Tony Fabico, Auditor Engr. Jedel Agron, and Col. Ariel Porfirio Querubin, Vice President of the Philippine Federation of Body Builders (PFBB) and the FESSAP Deputy Secretary General.
FESSAP Board Chair Mr. Alvin Tai Lian, who is also the president of Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF), had endorsed the candidacy of Mr. Tiu to be the PH Head of Delegation to the 2013 Kazan
Games.
According to Mr. Antonio Tiu and his assistant Mr. Dennis Sia, "our target goal is to participate in ten (10) events during the 27th Summer Universiade, namely, Archery, Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Basketball (Men), Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Weightlifting."
"We are also considering particpation in 10 other disciplines such as Canoe Sprint, Judo, Fencing, Shooting, and Wrestling." Meanwhile, Mr. Tiu has appointed Col.Ariel Porfirio Querubin as the country's flag-bearer during the Universiade opening ceremonies. Querubin is one of the country's two Medal of Valor awardees for bravery and heroism in military service.
Mr. Benny Antiporda, the president of the National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC), witnessed the designation of Mr. Antonio L. Tiu as PH HoD to the Kazan Universiade during the special meeting supported by FESSAP corporate sponsors such as San Miguel Corporation, National Press Club, Cobra Energy Drink, Healthy Options, Bestank, AgriNurture Inc (ANI) and Saint Peter Sporting Goods.
As the Head of Delegation (HoD), Mr. Antonio L. Tiu is tasked to inform the Organizing Committee of the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia, of the country's participation in various sports events and the number of athletes and officials to attend the games.
Each country is allowed to enter a maximum of seventeen (17) persons from each sport - 12 competitors/athletes and five officials.
To be eligible for the Kazan Universiade, an athlete must be born between January 1st, 1984 and December 31st, 1994 and must be enrolled in a tertiary school.
