Cebu City --- Not many Cebuanos know about the contribution made by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) secretary-general Graham C. Lim to Cebu sports especially in the field of basketball so that the players will be known only not here in our country but to be recognized internationally as well.
However, instead of thanking him, many of his detractors are busy destroying his image as a sport official that made him appears as villain rather than a silent operator of grassroots program's development.
Despite of these turmoils that even led to his imprisonment, Lim survived and showed to the whole world that it is not easy to pin him down as what many would try to discredit him.
Apparently, Lim is treated as stateless person but to the envy of his rivals in Philippine sports, he is free to travel anywhere in the world. All sorts of character assassinations, mud-slinging and other types of black propaganda hurled against him didn't really matter to him as long as his friends in BAP and in international sports community, many still trust him and recognize him.
Some Cebuano sports leaders maybe embarrassed when they find out how many instances that Lim helped to bring here in Cebu some prestigious basketball competitions both national and international aside from brokering in behalf of the Cebuano players to give them international exposures.
Lim first brought to Cebu the 1996 NSBC and the 2007 National Students Basketball Championship (NSBC) both held at the Cebu Coliseum and he was also involved in many other local sports competition that included National Basketball League (NBL) and National Inter-Club tournaments.
He was also responsible of bringing here the 6th Asian University Basketball Championships (AUBC) in 2008 also at the Cebu Coliseum with China winning the title over the South Koreans and our very own – University of Visayas (UV) and Southwestern University (SWU).
Just recently, Lim worked hard in pushing for the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters to play in the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China in August of 2011.He also played a big role when the CESAFI Selection then mentored by Elmer "Boy" Cabahug joined in an international tournament in Hong Kong.
He also helped the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) women's volleyball team to qualify for the 1st Asian University Beach Volleyball Championships after organizing the 1st National Students Beach Volleyball Championship in Manila in cooperation with the Philippine Schools Volleyball Association (PSVA), a volleyball organization solely recognized the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP).
Lim too, backed-up the CESAFI table tennis selection to qualify into the 26th Summer Universiade last year.
